Detailed Description
The MAX17435/MAX17535 charger includes all the
functions necessary to charge Li+, NiMH, and NiCd smart
batteries. A high-efficiency synchronous rectified step-
down DC-DC converter is used to implement a constant-
current constant-voltage charger. The DC-DC converter
drives a high-side n-channel MOSFET and provides
synchronous rectification with a low-side n-channel
MOSFET. The charge current and input current-sense
amplifiers have low-input offset errors (200FV typ),
allowing the use of small-valued sense resistors. The
MAX17435/MAX17535 use an SMBus interface similar
to the MAX8731A to set charge current, charge voltage,
and input current limit. In addition, the MAX17435/
MAX17535 SMBus interface supports ChargeVoltage
(), ChargeCurrent(), InputCurrent(), RELEARN(), and
IINPVoltage() readback.
